Through community, education, and advocacy, the MAGIRT leads and inspires information professionals in their work with map and geospatial information resources.

    SRRT (Social Responsibilities Round Table)

    This includes providing updates for the IFRT website, publishing the newsletter, producing the annual report, and promoting IFRT through social media channels. Members of this committee raise awareness of the Merritt fund. Executive Committee – The officers and committee chairs of the round table constitute the Executive Committee. Bylaws and Organization Committee – The Bylaws and Organization Committee is responsible for reviewing, recommending, and seeking approval of changes to the bylaws and guiding documents of IFRT and its committees. Committee appointments last for one year, beginning at ALA Annual (June/July) and ending at the next ALA Annual Conference.

    A round table is a membership unit established to promote a field of librarianship not within the scope of any single division. Although it cannot commit the Association by any declaration of policy, a round table may recommend policy and action to other units. Members of ALA may join those round tables for which they are eligible by payment of the specified dues. (Bylaws Article VII.)     LIRT (Library Instruction Round Table)

    The Membership Committee works with IFRT’s Board and other IFRT committees to communicate the value of belonging to IFRT. If you are interested in becoming a member of COO or other ALA committees, see COO Appointments below.     The Intellectual Freedom Round Table (IFRT) provides a forum for the discussion of activities, programs, and problems in intellectual freedom of libraries and librarians. The IRRT promotes global interest in library issues, coordinates international ALA activities, develops programs supporting international objectives, and provides hospitality and information to foreign visitors. Committee reports are submitted to the executive board before Annual Conferences. Each committee posts their reports in their ALA Connect spaces. COO committee member’s initial term is for two years and may be reappointed for an additional two-year term.

    • Programming and Events Committee – This committee works to plan and deliver member programming and events that meet the needs and strategic goals of IFRT.
    • ALA has standing, special, interdivisional, joint and ad hoc committees.

    The Committee on Organization consists of 13 members for two-year staggered terms; chairperson appointed annually. ALA Bylaws sets conditions for establishing divisions (Article VI) and roundtables (Article VII). Groups who want to establish a division or roundtable must have required minimum of interested Association members and statement of purpose. COO also considered long-term viability and overall structure of ALA in its recommendation. Please note as well that members can only serve on up to three committees across all of ALA during any year. In general, we recommend re-submitting your online form every six months or as needed to keep your information and interests up to date.

    The Rainbow Book List is created by the Rainbow Book List Committee of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Round Table of the American Library Association.
